Get Started Safely

Make sure the seat is safe when riding with children.

It’s the last day of the month, and you know what that means: Carpool Day! Maybe you have tried a few trips to the zoo with a friend or are still hesitant to get started with something like that and instead say, “I’ll start when school starts.” Whether you’re a newbie or you’re already deep in the practice of carpooling, make sure safety comes first. Make sure that each child has the proper safety measures for their age and weight. Learn the regulations for your state and make sure that everyone (including you) is safely buckled for carpool extravaganzas. – Michelle Andrade

Green Jobs

Make sure you’re printing in an eco-friendly manner.

Whether you’re printing a rough draft for a meeting or a letter to your senator, make sure you follow these easy steps for a greener print job:

Following simple steps like these will help you go green at work.

Written In Green

Make your writing greener with better pens and pencils.

After all that writing your family is doing, make an eco-responsible choice in writing implements. If it’s a pen, find one you really like made from recycled materials with refills. Buy in bulk and let the whole family have a few. By only discarding the refills, you save landfill space and some money (green). If you choose pencils, look to those made from 100% recycled content. Post consumer products put longer life into the natural resources we use. We have choices in everything we do, so today, make the choice to write green (even if your pen is black). - Michelle Andrade

Hot Stuff

Be safe and eco-friendly while grilling out.

It’s right in the middle of summer and if the heat hasn’t convinced you, all the talk of BBQs and swimming definitely will. We’ve discussed water safety with kids, but what about that barbeque of yours? Make your summer grilling a little greener and safer. Did you know that propane or gas is more eco-friendly than charcoal? Make sure to leave the grill lid closed to keep the heat in so you can lower the gas level and use less of it. For the most reliable safety measure, make sure to always turn the gas off from the tank. – Michelle Andrade

What’s Your Cause?

Everyone has a cause. What’s yours?

We know you have big aspirations for changing the world, but sometimes, it seems so hard to connect others with your passionate pleas for saving the world. For that very reason, YourCause.com makes it easier than ever to get the word out about your cause. Whether you’re committed to saving the rainforest or trying to tell others about the injustices around the world, YourCause makes it easy to build an awareness page, collect donations, and promote that which is most important to you. A few minutes goes a long way towards making a difference with a tool like this. - Sam Davidson

The Buddy System

Add new recruits to the social change revolution.

We’ve talked about the importance of dressing our kids with a message, and maybe that includes a spiritual declaration or support of a specific cause. But what organizations do you support, and how do you show it? Whether you receive a daily or weekly email or a newsletter in your mailbox, share it with a friend. Then, if the organization has apparel or other products that help support their work, purchase something as a gift to have ready for the next birthday celebration. Helping a friend join the revolution is a multi-step process, but you’ve got to start somewhere. - Michelle Andrade
