It's time to get back into the habit of putting sunscreen on yourself and your children.
It’s still cold and dreary outside most of the time, but we’re starting to see some sun peeking through the gloom.
That means it’s time to get back into the habit of putting sunscreen on yourself and your children when you go outside. It’s important to protect their delicate skin–and to help them learn why it’s important to take this step.
The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that anyone over age six months wear sunscreen on a daily basis. So it’s best to keep those infants inside or well-covered with shade and protective clothing. But for yourself and children over six months, look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 for typical daily use. Keep some at home for regular use, and stick an extra tube in your purse or the diaper bag so you’ll always have some on hand.
And ideally, try to avoid the harmful rays of the sun during the middle of the day. Save your long walks around the neighborhood for late in the afternoon, or plan a trip to the playground first thing in the morning. After all, it’s never too early to take good care of your children’s skin. - Jennifer Larson
