5 minutes of caring

It's June!

It's June!

And that means big things are in store!

June is full of many great things. It's Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month, National Fruit And Vegetable Month, and Zoo And Aquarium Month. And don't forget that Flag Day falls right before Father's Day. So send a card, visit your favorite zoo, eat some fruit or adopt a cat. Whatever you choose, make sure to keep June COOL! See how many meaningful activities you can think of that highlight at least one of these celebrations and includes some valuable family time. Leave your ideas in the comments below, and we'll award a Cool Mom T-shirt to one very lucky cool mom!

I love to volunteer at our local animal shelter. I clean the kitty cages and talk to the kitties while I do it. They love to talk back. When I am done and move on to other chores, they will listen for my voice and will talk to me whenever I walk by.
A great way to teach kids about what happens when you don't spay and neuter your pets is to take them to the shelter. They can talk to the animals and give them treats and toys. Most of the animals just love the attention of someone talking to them. If your kids are old enough to do it, you should. Most shelters will be happy that you are teaching your children and that extra few minutes of love you can give to the animals can make a difference for everyone, including the animals. Keep in mind shelter pets are sometimes the most loveable, loyal animals you will ever have.

Wendy,
Thanks for sharing! We are always grateful to hear people share about adopting pets from shelters. Our dog is a rescue and he is the sweetest thing; can't imagine life without him!
