I Forgot the Bags!

I Forgot the Bags!

What's a mom to do when bag-less?

We already advised you to put an extra set of canvas bags in the trunk of your car to keep you and your family plastic-free. But, sometimes we just forget to bring them with us or end up running by the store on a whim and find ourselves bag-less. If that's the case, instead of opting for plastic because it's simple, simply put your items back into your cart and load them into your bags when you get to the car. This will keep you in canvas and out of plastic - even when it seems inconvenient to be green!

I had to do this just the other day :). I got a few funny looks from the lady running the self-checkout lane, but I was okay with that.

I've done this a few times, people always look at me funny, lol. The other thing that I have done is change them at the car but that's usually because they (the cashiers) didn't listen when I told them to put them in my bags.

We actually had a cashier at Wal-Mart to tell us to carry our things out to the car in the buggy and put them in the bag there because I mentioned we left the bags in the car. The message is spreading!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments! We hope the word continues to spread. Plastic is OUT; canvas is IN!

I just had to do this today. I was running in the store - actually knew I was going there and had my bags in the car, but totally forgot to get them. As I was standing in line, I realized that I forgot them and had that brief moment to decide. It was almost like it was in slow motion. I loaded the items back into my cart - with my little one - and headed to the car! It was so easy to just load my items into the bags once to the car. I will NEVER use plastic again.

One more tip! Those plastic bags stores provide to put veggies in is probably the worst environment for them! Don't use them at all! If you go to "self checkouts" you can weigh your own produce (minus plastic) and fill your own canvas bags as you like! I like to have a separate canvas bag for meats, frozen, & produce. Very convenient!
